Golf etiquette refers to rules and courtesies that players abide by when playing golf. These rules are meant to increase the safety and enjoyment of all the players on the golf course.

Pace of Play

Do your best to keep up with the group in front of you.
If there is not a group in front of you, but there is a faster group behind you, let them play through. You probably do not like waiting on other players, and other players probably do not like waiting on you.
Be ready to hit your shot when it is your turn. Do not wait until it is your turn to begin your pre-shot routine.
The player who is the furthest away hits their shot first. This rule may be ignored if the members of your group prefer to play "ready golf." Ready golf simply means that players hit their shots whenever they are ready, disregarding who is the farthest away.
When you are chipping around the green, bring your putter with you so you do not have to go back to your cart.
If two people sharing a cart hit their balls to opposite sides of the fairway, drop the person off whose shot went furthest from the cart path.

Golf Etiquette

Below are some general guidelines to follow when playing golf.

Around the Course

Arrive at the course as early as possible. Be ready to start your round when your group's tee time arrives.
Observe and obey the posted cart rules.
Repair divots on the tees and in the fairways.
Take a moment to rake the sand trap after your shot. Be sure to remove your footprints, ball marks, and divots.
If you need to enter another fairway to hit your shot, allow the players on that hole to hit before proceeding to your ball.
Never talk while another player is in the middle of a shot.
Avoid yelling or making loud outbursts; this distracts the other golfers around you.
Do not leave trash around the course.

On The Greens

Repair all marks that were caused by your approach shot.
Shhhhh! Do not talk while players are lining up or hitting their put.
Mark your ball if there is even the slightest chance that it could interfere with another player's shot.
Be careful that you do not walk through another players putting line. The impression that your foot makes in the green could alter the roll of the golf ball.
Be aware of your shadow. Be sure that it does not cast in the putting line of a fellow player.
